Jake Prentice, Bassoonist and Craftsman
Jake Prentice is a bassoonist, conductor, and educator. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Bassoon performance at Texas Tech University. A Texas native, his career has bounced around from playing bassoon in DFW orchestras to teaching band in West Texas to a short stint as a beginner choir director before circling back to West Texas to play bassoon again. He received his bachelor’s degree in music education from Southern Methodist University where he studied bassoon under Wilfred Roberts and music education under Lynne Jackson and Brian Merrill. Later, he completed his Masters of Music in Music Education at Texas A&M University - Commerce where he studied conducting under Phillip Clements. He currently studies with Kim Walker and teaches beginner bassoon in the Lubbock area.
